AnimeGO! Anime Film Festival 2018
The Japan Australia Friendship Association proudly presents: AnimeGO! Anime Film Festival 2018Adelaide's first and only anime film festival! Held annually, AnimeGO! is a showcase for aspiring animators, film makers and artists. The festival encourages creators to produce content with a Japanese influence, whether it be animation films (anime), artwork or music.
The festival's highlight will be the screening of the top entries from our film making competition, along with a mixture of five anime films. We will also be announcing the winner of our short anime film making competition with the prize being a TRIP TO JAPAN!

Edo Style: Art of Japan Exhibition
The David Roche Foundation will open a major new exhibition Edo Style: Art of Japan (1615-1868) which will showcase more than 150 exquisite works of art, drawn predominantly from the renowned Japanese art collection at the Art Gallery of South Australia, with additional items from The David Roche Collection and private collections.
Mid-Winter Dinner
Our annual Mid-Winter Dinner is one of our most popular events! This year we'll be warming up at Himeji Izakaya on Grote Street in the city (a very short walk from our monthly J-Kai venue!) on Friday 20 July from 6pm. There will be a set menu, with a vegetarian/vegan option. The cost is just $30 for JAFA members or $40 for non-members. Everyone is welcome, so bring your friends! Remembering Hiroshima
Commemorating the anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Join Australian Red Cross to reflect on the tragic use of nuclear weapons in 1945 and take part in an activity to inspire their efforts to ensure they are never used again. Drumming ensemble El Tambo Taiko, school students - including from the Adelaide Japanese Community School - together with others will share their talents, perspectives and insights. Hear about the Nuclear Weapon Ban Treaty adopted in 2017 and the road still ahead to see it take effect. When: Sunday 5 August, 2pm - 3:30pm
JAFA AFL Day
Come to see Port Adelaide take on St Kilda on Saturday 7th July for a great Australian cultural experience! We will meet at 3 pm at the Strathmore Hotel, 129 North Terrace, and walk together to Adelaide Oval. All tickets are for General Admission, however seating should be available if we get there early enough. Ticket prices: Looking forward to seeing you there!
2018 SA Japanese Language Speech Contest
This year's Japanese Speech Contest organised by the Japanese Language Teachers Association of SA (JLTASA) will be held on Saturday 8 September. The winner of High School Senior division and Open Division will compete with other states/territories winners at the National Finals which will be held at the Japan Foundation Sydney Office on Saturday 6th October 2018. The SA Japanese Speech Contest has four categories. These are:
2018 FIFA World Cup Match - Japan vs Colombia
Join us on Tuesday 19th June as Japan takes on Colombia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup match. Kick off is 9:30pm Adelaide time. We will be watching the game LIVE from 9pm at the Hotel Metropolitan - 46 Grote Street, Adelaide (opposite Central Markets). This is a free event and everyone is welcome - bring your friends along for a great night!
