J-Kai is JAFA's monthly social event that has been running since 1998. It provides an opportunity for Japanese and Australians with an interest in Japan to meet in a relaxed atmosphere. You don't have to be a JAFA member or speak any Japanese, just come along! Anyone can join and it's free.
J-Kai was originally only a Japanese conversation group, but over the past few years it has evolved into a monthly "event" with additions such as guest speakers, live music, Japanese movies and more.
Past J-Kai events include:
- Screening of the original 1954 Godzilla (ゴジラ)
- Guest speaker: Stephen Yarwood, former Lord Mayor of the City of Adelaide
- J-pop night
- Guest speaker: Rusty Kelty, Assistant Curator of Asian Art - Art Gallery of South Australia
J-Kai is a great opportunity to practice your Japanese, share your Japan stories, or get started with the JAFA community. It's all very informal and casual, so come join us for a fun night.
JAFA members are eligible for the monthly door prize, so bring along your membership card or sign up on the night.
Drinks and meals are available for purchase from the bar.
