2003 Festival Program
The Festival begins with Midori no Hi when, in the spirit of the day, we plant trees in the Adelaide parklands. During the week we will screen a selection of Japanese movies, before finishing with the Kodomo no Hi celebration.
Midori no Hi - Green Day Tree Planting and Family Picnic
Date: Sunday 27th April
Time: from 10.30 am
Place: Robe Terrace, East of Medindie Road. The trees will be planted in the area bounded by Robe Terrace, Medindie Road, Lefevre Terrace and Kingston Terrace. Bring a picnic lunch. Shovels will be provided!
Japanese Film Festival
JAFA will be presenting three films with the Adelaide Uni Film Society:
- Tues 29th April "Daiyukai (Rainbow Kids)",
- Wed 30th April "Tora-san to the Rescue (Otoko wa tsurai yo: Torajiro kurenai no hana), and
- Thu 1st May "Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi)".
Screenings will be at 7:30pm in the Union Cinema on the "5th" floor of the Adelaide University Union building (just find the courtyard/adjacent lawns opposite the Torrens River/Lake footbridge). Admission is by gold coin donation.
Kodomo no Hi - Children's Day Celebration
Date: Sunday 4th May
Time: 11am - 4pm
Place: Cowandilla Primary School, Jenkins St. Cowandilla
Cost: Gold coin donation
The programme for Children's Day includes lots of Japanese dance, music - taiko drumming and koto, tea ceremony, kimono fashion parade, kamishibai, martial arts demonstrations, exhibitions of bonsai and ikebana, craft stalls, food stalls, japanese trains and mochitsuki. There'll be student performances organized by the Japanese Language Teachers Association.
We'll also have a trash and treasure stall and book stall. If you have any Japanese books, magazines or manga that you'd like to donate, please contact us.
